| May 31, 2007 10:08 - Welcome to Colour-of-the-Rainbow.com's Popular Blogs!
This is the beginning of what I hope will be a useful, informative and entertaining blog. I've never done a blog before, so please be patient with me as I venture into new waters!
I, like everybody else, am moved by, and have opinions on what's going on in the world today. I hope this will become a forum in which people of all cultures and ethnicity can exchange information, opinions and ideas that will be beneficial to everyone.
I believe in the ideology of one people, one world, and that in essence all men are brothers in the human race. I also realize that not everyone one feels this way, and though I am a dreamer I am not unaware of the reality of division.
Here you will find that all are welcome and all may be discussed. Unification is achieved through dialogue, not by avoidance or the denial of something's existence. I only ask that you practice basic consideration and express your views in a reasonable and mature manner.
This blog also contains specific category pages where you can find information about Bermuda and Ireland, or recipes and movie and book reviews. Feel free to browse these categories and to post your comments on the topics within them.
That being said, welcome to my blog and hope you have fun here!
Feel free to browse the rest of our website as well. It contains lots of information and subjects not included in the blogs.

May 31, 2007 13:17 - Icon of Tourism industry in bermuda ceases operations!
Bermuda Island Cruises, an icon and pioneer of tourism in Bermuda has announced that it will cease operations effective immediately. It has been reported in today's edition of The Royal Gazette, Bermuda's major newspaper, that the company which fathered the once famous "5 Hour Cruise " around Bermuda and Hawkin's Island parties, was closing its doors after over 40 years of entertaining and accomodating Bermuda's visitors.
The decline of Bermuda's tourism industry in general, the lack of tax breaks from Government and the overall increase of operating costs in Bermuda are thought to be the contributing factors to this once iconic company's demise.
Once operating up to 4 vessels each carrying approximately 200 passengers, 6 days a week on a five hour tour which included a commentary of Bermuda, a stop at Hawkin's Island for swimming and lunch, a stopover in Somerset Village for shopping and its famous Rum Swizzle Party on the return run to Hamilton, Bermuda Island Cruises dwindled over the years to operating one Glass Bottom Boat, The Reef Explorer operating at only a third of its capacity for 3 days a week, and declining numbers at its Hawkin's Island events.
In later years Bermuda Island Cruises branched out into event management, organising and coordinating conventions for companies such as State Farm Insurance, Jaguar, Merryl Lynch and many others, but have been forced into oblivion by the closure of most of the major hotels, and the unscrupulous practices and greed of those remaining.
Many a visitor to Bermuda's shores have returned to their homelands with wonderful, fun memories of their vacation in Bermuda, due in large part to the efforts of the unique and personable staff that BIC has employed over the years.
It is a sad day for Bermuda tourism, and it is with fond memories that we say farewell to a company and its staff largely responsible for putting Bermuda on the tourism map.
